Each morning I stumble out of bed, grab a cup of coffee, and do my Daily 5. It's like morning calisthenics--for my writing muscles. Afterwards, I'm mentally limbered up and ready to take on the day.
Why? Because it occured to me that writing is different than other arts because many writers don't feel the need to practice daily. Actually working on a project (novel, short story, etc.) becomes the writing practice.
Can you imagine ballet dancers just starting to dance with the attitude I'll learn it as I go?
I've designed The Daily 5 to be short writing prompts, each focusing on an aspect of the writing craft. No longer than 5 to 10 minutes should be spent on each prompt. In fact, set a timer and stop when the timer goes off.
